Public Safety

Partnership & Collaboration

“I want people to feel safe no matter where they are in the county.”

Ypsilanti and Augusta Townships are wonderful communities to call home - to build a life and raise a family. It is crucial for residents to feel safe and be safe, especially when interacting with law enforcement. I believe a stronger partnership between the County Commission and the Sheriff’s Office is necessary to produce the best outcomes in public safety and police relations for county residents. Recently, Washtenaw County voters passed a millage that will provide much needing funding to public safety and mental health services. Collaboration with the Sheriff will help to ensure the Commission is making informed decisions when allocating funds from the millage that impact the safety and well-being of our communities. We have the opportunity to work in tandem with the Sheriff and his board, instead of viewing them as an adversary. As County Commissioner, I intend to join officers on patrol and push for partnership on initiatives, to better understand what is happening in our communities and how the Commission can be involved.
